Carlo Scarpa was born in 1906. He was a renowned Venetian architect and designer.
- He studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Venice.
- In 1925, he worked for the Murano company M.V.M. Cappellin & Co., overseeing the construction of their new factory and the restoration of the Palazzo da Mula in Murano.
- From 1932 to 1947, he worked as an artistic consultant for Venini.
He experimented with various techniques:
- Filigrana: A technique that incorporated delicate Murano threads, often white or colored, into clear glass.
- Sommerso: Based on the layering of different colors of glass.
- Corroso: An acid-etched surface to create a textured, almost eroded appearance.
- He excelled in the Murrine technique, where patterned glass canes are fused together to create complex mosaic designs.
After leaving Venini, he dedicated himself to furniture design and architecture.
