Murano designer carlo scarpa

Carlo Scarpa was born in 1906. He was a renowned Venetian architect and designer.


  1. He studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Venice.


  1. In 1925, he worked for the Murano company M.V.M. Cappellin & Co., overseeing the construction of their new factory and the restoration of the Palazzo da Mula in Murano.


  1. From 1932 to 1947, he worked as an artistic consultant for Venini.


He experimented with various techniques:

  1. Filigrana: A technique that incorporated delicate Murano threads, often white or colored, into clear glass.


  1. Sommerso: Based on the layering of different colors of glass.


  1. Corroso: An acid-etched surface to create a textured, almost eroded appearance.


  1. He excelled in the Murrine technique, where patterned glass canes are fused together to create complex mosaic designs.


After leaving Venini, he dedicated himself to furniture design and architecture.
