The Arts and Crafts movement

The Arts and Crafts movement emerged in England in the late 19th century, approximately between (1850 and 1880), as a response to mass industrial production.

Arts & Crafts experienced a significant boost in 1861 when William Morris founded the company Morris and Company.

Principles of Arts & Crafts:

  1. It rejected industrial methods of work, which separated the worker from their work, fragmenting their tasks.
  2. It restored aesthetics to everyday objects.
  3. It proposed the grouping of artisans in workshops, following the medieval model of collective work.

The Arts and Crafts style aimed to elevate the social and aesthetic dignity of design and all applied arts, integrating them into a harmonious and beautiful architectural environment."
