Orivit was founded in 1894 in Cologne-Ehrenfeld, Germany, by Wilhelm Ferdinand Hubert Schmitz.
The company's name was "Rheinische Broncegieserei fur Kleinplastiken."
In 1896, the company began producing luxury goods using its own unique metal alloy called "Orivit Metal". This name was officially registered as a trademark in 1898. The alloy was specifically developed to mimic the appearance of polished silver.
Their designs featured organic and flowing lines, and naturalistic motifs, particularly floral elements. They created a wide range of household and decorative items.
Orivit's exceptional designs gained recognition at World Exhibitions in Paris (1900 - Gold Medal) and St. Louis (1904).
In 1905, WMF acquired a majority stake in the Orivit AG company, which continued to manufacture products under the "Orivit" name until 1914.
